The prestigious European cultural route, the Historic Cafes Route, accredited by the Council of Europe in 2022, has expanded into the Republic of Moldova. The new Board of Directors of this cultural route approved the membership of the first entity from Moldova. The membership was approved during the very first meeting chaired by the new president of the Historic Cafes Route, Romanian Arnold Klingeis. This marks the first time in history that a Romanian citizen leads a European cultural route.
Currently, Moldova is represented in the Historic Cafes Route by the restaurant Wine.md Tasting Room. The president of the Historic Cafes Route, Arnold Klingeis, stated that this decision was a matter of honor. "In February of this year, I had the honor and pleasure of attending the Economic Forum in Chișinău as a speaker. From the event’s podium, I mentioned that I would support the inclusion of restaurants, cafes, and hotels from Moldova that meet the necessary conditions into the Historic Cafes Route, in order to support the development of tourism. There, I made this promise to His Royal Highness Prince Radu of Romania, as well as to Mr. Dorin Recean, the Prime Minister of Moldova, and Mr. Igor Grosu, the President of the Parliament of Chișinău. Now, I am happy to fulfill this promise," declared Arnold Klingeis.
He mentioned that he was impressed by the hospitality of the hosts in Moldova, the beauty of the old buildings in Chișinău and its surroundings, the high quality of the wines, specialty coffees, and the diversity of historical gastronomy.
The Wine.md Tasting Room operates in an iconic building in the capital of Moldova, a historical and architectural monument. The building is known by locals as "The Cellar or Oksinoit’s House," named after one of the 19th-century owners of the property. Guests who visit the restaurant have the opportunity to taste from 400 types and varieties of wine, all produced in Moldova. Additionally, food lovers are treated to the most refined culinary dishes and coffee specialties.
Alongside the Wine.md Tasting Room, the Board of Directors of the Historic Cafes Route also approved the admission of a well-known restaurant from Alba Iulia, Romania. The restaurant in question is Pub 13 – Carolina Castle, joining the European network of "golden cafes," which brings together some of the most representative venues in Europe.
The president of the Historic Cafes Route, Arnold Klingeis, has so far been the Council of Europe's ambassador for this prestigious cultural route in Romania. He is an entrepreneur with extensive experience in tourism. He manages the famous Ice Hotel in the Bâlea Lac area, as well as the Brukenthal Palace in Avrig. This palace was the summer residence of the governor of Transylvania and is now the center of a splendid Baroque estate, transformed into an elite hotel establishment.
