Café A Brasileira (est. 1903)
The iconic A Brasileira Café opened its doors on 4 May 1903, and to mark its 115th anniversary, the opening ceremony of the Pestana Porto – A Brasileira City Center & Heritage Building was held, bringing together not only the centennial café, but a 5-star hotel and a restaurant serving signature cuisine.
Pestana Porto – A Brasileira City Center & Heritage Building is the fruit of the restoration of the centennial building located on Rua Sá da Bandeira. In addition to the Café and the restaurant managed by chef Rui Martins, the hotel has 90 rooms and suites spread across six thematic floors, related to spices imported in the 15th and 16th centuries during the Portuguese maritime expansion, namely: Coffee, Tea, Cocoa, Pepper, Cinnamon and Anise. There is also a gym, meeting rooms and a French courtyard with a vertical garden.
The characteristics of the nineteenth century facade and the image of the ground floor rooms – café and restaurant – were preserved with its original design in a project developed by the APPEL Office’s architectural team, led by architect Ginestal Machado, resulting from the restoration of the work by architect Januário Godinho. The interior design was entrusted to Jaime Morais.
