A journey through time and its centuries-old shops is presented by the Spanish newspaper El País in the Spanish city of Santiago de Compostela.
As reported by “The capital of Galicia maintains historic shops in its streets that have been passed down from generation to generation, maintaining their original essence and attractiveness”. Among them we find Café Casino, a member of the Historic Cafés Route, in Spain.
«Café Casino
Entering this place means traveling back 150 years. When it was a private men’s club – it began operating as a recreational society in 1873 – a meeting place for high society in Compostela where illustrious figures such as Valle-Inclán, Otero Pedrayo and Castelao enjoyed social gatherings and cultural evenings. In 2002 it became a cafeteria, allowing the general public to enjoy this architectural jewel, on the ground floor of a building designed by Compostela architect Manuel Pereiro Caeiro. Its wooden carvings, high ceilings, stained glass windows and chandeliers invite you to sit at its tables and enjoy its quiet atmosphere, sometimes enlivened by a pianist. Tasting one of their cocktails, a snack with friends or simply letting time pass while watching passersby behind one of their large windows takes you back to times gone by.»
