Café Elena is one of Turin’s historic cafés, a meeting place and cultural debate, frequented by students and musicians and loved by generations of Turinese, which has kept the decor and discreet atmosphere of the early twentieth century unchanged. Housed in the nineteenth-century building designed by the architect Giuseppe Frizzi, overlooking Piazza Vittorio Veneto, it enjoys a view of the Gran Madre di Dio church.

Café Elena is a place of ancient romanticisms linked to the passage of time and to stories that have crossed national borders. 130 years have passed since Giuseppe Carpano here, between 1889 and 1902, perfected the recipe for his vermouth, an elixir of white wine and herbs created in the eighteenth century by his ancestor Antonio Benedetto.

In its long history, Café Elena has also been the place loved and frequented by Cesare Pavese, at the same tables with a red breccia – among the boiseries, mirrors and paintings by G.M. Bertagna – the great novelist, poet, translator and literary critic stood and wrote.

Café Elena today is a café that tells of a place that lives at all times, it is the place where people meet, and the conception of time does not seem to exist.
