The President of the Historic Cafés Route (HCR), Mr. Arnold Günter Klings, has officially appointed His Excellency Fabrizio Mechi as the Ambassador of the Historic Cafés Route for Vatican City State. This decision was celebrated during a festive ceremony, highlighting a step towards decentralizing and strengthening the Cultural Route.
Ambassadors of the Historic Cafés Route are entrusted with promoting the Cultural Route of the Council of Europe, upholding the values of human rights, democracy, and the rule of law. The appointment of H.E. Mechi underscores HCR’s commitment to fostering European cultural heritage through these historic venues.
Cardinal Francesco Monterisi, Archpriest emeritus of the Papal Basilica of St. Paul Outside-the-Walls, was born on 28 May 1934 in Barletta, Italy. He studied at the Pontifical Minor and Major Seminaries in Rome and holds doctorates in theology and canon law from the Pontifical Lateran University.
Created and proclaimed Cardinal by Benedict XVI in the consistory of 20 November 2010, of the Title of San Paolo alla Regola (Saint Paul alla Regola) Deaconry elevated pro hac vice to presbyteral title (3 May 2021).
