The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos, visited the Historic Cafe “Kipos” on Wednesday 3 October, early in the afternoon. Mr. Pavlopoulos is the first President of the Hellenic Republic to visit the Historic Cafe “Kipos” since it was founded in 1870.
The President of the Hellenic Republic visited the exhibition of the historic photos, at the Cafe and enjoyed his coffee with the Founder and President of EHICA, Mr. Vasilis Stathakis. Mr. Pavlopoulos also signed the guestbook of the Historic Cafe “Kipos”.
During his visit Mr. Pavlopoulos was informed about the historical, cultural, architectural and artistic heritage of the Historic Cafe “Kipos” and he showed great interest in initiatives developed by (EHICA). In fact, he was also excited by the Historic Cafe “Kipos” itself, which he described as “a jewel of civilization, a model for our country and for Europe”.
The President of the Hellenic Republic has requested – among other things – to be informed about the Council of Europe’s international forum “Cultural Routes”, which will be hosted in Chania in 2020, stressing that he will help this important effort, as well as any effort that promotes the country.
He was also briefed on the new “Cultural Route” under the name “Historic Cafes”. Mr Stathakis also informed Mr Pavlopoulos of the initiative to establish 8 April as “International Historic Cafes Day” and of the proposal Mr. Stathakis already submitted to the Hellenic Ministries of Culture and Development to create a special sector for the development of cultural entrepreneurship.
At the visit were also present the Mayor of Kalavrita Mr. Giorgos A. Lazouras, the businessman and shipowner Mr. George Vardinoyiannis and the former Mayor of Kantanos & a member of the Board of Directors of “Livanis” Publishing House Mr. Eftihis Daskalakis.
The President of the Hellenic Republic, Mr. Prokopis Pavlopoulos, was in Chania for attending the 50th anniversary of the Orthodox Academy of Crete.
