Pfatisch (est. 1915)
Turin, Italy
The historic Pasticceria Pfatisch was inaugurated in 1915 by the famous master of Bavarian origin Gustavo Pfatisch, born in 1887 in Fossano and soon arrived in Turin. In 1921 the business was moved to its current location in via Sacchi 42, in the splendid Liberty building designed by the famous architect Pietro Fenoglio, in full Art Deco style.
In 1934 the management passed to Carlo Ferraris, already a partner of Gustavo Pfatisch; a leap forward to April 2020, where Francesco Ciocatto and his Team are at the helm, bringing back to light a brand that has marked the history of chocolate and artisanal pastry making in Turin, rediscovering the tradition of ancient recipes.
In the basement a real gem, the complete factory for the production of chocolate; The old laboratory, now represents a perfect museum of chocolate from the beginning of the last century.
Production continues in the pastry laboratory as it once was with gianduiotti, bars, spreads and pralines; and what about the savoury pastries, created in the early 50s. The flagship is "Il Festivo", the timeless cake born in the early 60s, composed of two cocoa meringue discs filled with chocolate chantilly cream and covered with chocolate chips, garnished with the characteristic tuft of puff chocolate, always present in the hearts of the people of Turin.
Pasticceria Pfatisch has been declared a Historic Place of Italy and a cultural heritage site, representing an almost unique example of a place that has remained intact since its foundation; “Suppliers of the Royal House” and frequented in the past by personalities such as the princes and princesses of Savoy, the Duke of Aosta, the Countess Calvi di Bergolo, the Countess of Mirafiori, Cesare Pavese, Primo Levi, Mario Soldati, Indro Montanelli, Norberto Bobbio and many others.
Several film productions have been shot inside, such as the fiction “Il grande Torino” with Michele Placido and Beppe Fiorello, “Enrico Mattei” directed by Giorgio Capitani and ”Luisa Spagnoli”, starring Luisa Ranieri and directed by Lodovico Gasparini.
The Pfatisch philosophy does not only look to the past, but also to innovation. “Behind the historic brand there are people, workers who every day, with passion and commitment, collaborate together to achieve the common goal of rediscovering the flavors of the past”.
Francesco Ciocatto and Stefanella Bergiotti.
